CETAC Senior Research Coordinator and Team Leader
As the Thrombosis Clinical Nurse, Carla is responsible for developing and delivering educational programs and providing support pertaining to venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) for patients and families in both in-patient and out-patient settings, as well as to members of the Jewish General Hospital health care team who provide treatment to these patients. Carla is also involved in direct care of patients (Thrombosis Clinic, Emergency Department) through interviewing, history taking, teaching and documentation and by working in collaboration with the CETAC multidisciplinary team. She works to ensure that evidence based care is delivered through quality assessments, teaching and the development of best practice tools.
She received her RN from the JGH School of Nursing in 1971, and obtained a certificate in physical assessment offered at the JGH from the University of Montreal in 1981. She has previously served in many positions at the JGH including Head Nurse in hemodialysis, Clinical Nurse in the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic and the CETAC Senior Research Coordinator and Team Leader.
She has led many initiatives to support teaching and learning. She was an invited speaker on the topic of VTE and patient education at national and international conferences, has developed and leads a successful preceptorship program in VTE, is responsible for CETAC research staff training, and is the resource person for CETAC research staff.
