Screening for Occult Malignancy using 18F-PET scan for Unprovoked VTE
The trial is open-label randomized controlled trial. Patients older than 50 years of age with a first unprovoked episode of VTE will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to have a limited screen alone or in combination with FDG PET/CT.
Why are we doing this study?
To determine if early detection of occult malignancies in patients with a first unprovoked VTE can be achieved with FDG PET/CT.
Who is eligible?
First Unprovoked episode of VTE for people older than 50 years of age (randomization up to 30 days after VTE diagnosis ).
What is involved if I participate in the study?
The total follow-up period for all enrolled patients is 1 year (5 years if a cancer is diagnosed within the first year). Telephone follow-up visits are scheduled at:
- 6 months
- 9 months
